The metalloids, also called the semimetals, form a diagonal line, separating the metal elements from the nonmetals. They are called the metalloids (or semimetals) because they share properties with both the metals and the nonmetals. In this picture, the metalloids are the elements shown in pale turquoise. There are seven metalloids, and they are boron, silicon, germanium, arsenic, antimony, tellurium, and polonium. Polonium is radioactive.
